W J TRYTHALL

W J Trythall‘s directory appeared (at least) twice: in 1875 and in 1877, each time with a new map. Trythall’s address was the Old Town Printing Works, 100 Old Town Street. It remains a mystery why Trythall had to change the earlier map; perhaps he wanted a newer looking map, rather than just updating the map he already had. In any event, he seems to have fallen back on copying a map produced by Brendon some 20 years earlier. This second map is almost an exact copy of Brendon’s which was lithographed by C R Baggs of Plymouth (c.f.). The second directory listed here also had a map advertising Farley’s Hotel (c.f. Anon - Farley).
